In 1960s, Florida college football team was looking for a way to improve the hydration and athletic performance of its athletes during hot. The football coach was concerned that many of his players were suffering negatively from heat and heat-related illnesses and desperately wanted a way to prevent this.

Sports drinks history came from a long way in the 1960s. It all started when a football college team coach in Florida consulted a group of local university physicians about his players suffering from the negatively from the heat and heat related illness. The researchers conducted a research and found out the following:
·      Loss of body electrolytes from excessive sweating that were not being adequately replace
·      Depleted muscle carbohydrate stores, from long practices, causing muscle fatigue and failure.
In the end, the researchers found a solution for it and started formulating a special carbohydrate- electrolyte drink for these players. The players were in top form in every match because of that drink and they even won the orange bowl for the first year in their school history.
The drink contained a mixture of water sugar, sodium, potassium, and phosphate and lemon juice.Gatorade”  was the name of the
was the first ever sports drink formulated in the world.
History of Alcoholic beverage

While no one knows when beverage alcohol was first used, it was presumably the result of a fortuitous accident that occurred at least tens of thousands of years ago. However, the discovery of late Stone Age beer jugs has established the fact that intentionally fermented beverages existed at least as early as the Neolithic period (cir. 10,000 B.C.). Alcohol is a product that has provided a variety of functions for people throughout all history.

The earliest alcoholic beverages may have been made from berries or honeyand winemaking may have originated in the wild grape regions of the Middle East. From the earliest times to the present, alcohol has played an important role in religion and worship. Historically, alcoholic beverages have served as sources of needed nutrients and have also been widely used for their medicinal and antiseptic. For example, beverages were widely used in all segments of Chinese society, were used as a source of inspiration, were important for hospitality, and were an antidote for fatigue.

The role of such beverages as thirst quenchers is obvious. and they play an important role in enhancing the enjoyment and quality of life. Many people have treated drinking as a form of enjoyment, enhancing quality of life. Sometimes, it can also increase the pleasure of eating. Thus, while alcohol has always been misused by a minority of drinkers, it has proved to be beneficial the most.

The Big History Of Soft Drinks

What is a soft drink? A soft drink is a beverage that contains carbonated water, a sweetener and a flavoring. It can also be called a soda, a term which many people uses. The name soft drink comes from the word “soft” in comparison with “hard drinks” which is also known as alcoholic drinks. Although some may notice that some soft drinks can have alcohol content in it, in order for the drink to be under the category of “soft” drinks its alcohol content has to be less than 0.5% of the total volume! So you might want to check some of the soft drinks before buying for young children!
The first soft drink marketed in the Western world was all the way back in the 17th century. It was made of water and lemon juice sweetened with honey and it is commonly known as Lemonade in present day. In 1676, Paris, Vendors would carry tanks of lemonade on their backs and dispensing the drink into cups selling to Parisians.

Carbonated drinks was also discovered by an English man in the late 18th century by a man called Joseph Priestly. In 1976, he discovered a method by infusing carbonated water with carbon dioxide to make carbonated water. He did it by suspending a bowl of distilled of water above a beer at local brewery in England. His invention of carbonated water was the biggest change in how soft drinks can be made.

Tea time

The Chinese character for tea is , originally written as  (pronounced tu, used as a word for a bitter herb), and acquired its current form during the Tang Dynasty as used in the eighth-century treatise on tea.
Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured leaves of the tea plant. After water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world. It has a cooling, slightly bitter taste.
Tea originated in China as a medicinal drink. It was first introduced to Portuguese priests and merchants in China during the 16th century. Drinking tea became popular in Britain during the 17th century. The British introduced it to India, in order to compete with the Chinese monopoly on the product.
Tea has long been promoted for having a variety of positive health benefits. Recent studies suggest that green tea may help reduce the risk of cancer, promote oral health, reduce blood pressure, help with weight control and improve antibacterial Green tea is also said to have "anti-fibrotic properties, and neuro protective power." Additional research is needed to "fully understand its contributions to human health, and advise its regular consumption in Western diets."
Consumption of green tea is associated with a lower risk of diseases that cause functional disability, such as “stroke, cognitive impairment, and osteoporosis” in the elderly.

Tea contains L-theanine, an amino acid whose consumption is mildly associated with a calm but alert and focused, relatively productive mental state in humans. This mental state is also common to meditative practice.

The Beginning Of Your Cup Of Coffee.

Cafe hopping have been a recent trend in Singapore within teenagers and adults, the environment, atmosphere and others but the key to success of a cafe is the cup of coffee. Enjoy drinking coffee? The bitterness, fragrance, thickness of the milk foam or the sweetness of the brown or white sugar, condensed milk or just honey added into coffee. However, do you know where does coffee beans originated? What is the process of making coffee from beans? Let me bring you through the history of coffee, let us beginning!

Coffee originated from East Africa, Ethiopia to be more specified and first cultivated by Arabs, 14th century.  By the 16th century, it slowly spreads to the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia then America. There are many stories of how coffee found, one interesting example is a 9th-century Ethiopian goat-herder, Kaldi, who noticed the energizing effect on his flock after eating a certain red berries of a bush. He tried it himself and brought it to the monastery but the monk disapproved the use of the coffee and threw them in the fire. Then an strong aroma billowed and the monks investigate, ground the roasted coffee beans and dissolved in hot water. That was the first cup of coffee in the world.

The coffee berries harvested and have two methods of processing, dry process and wet process methods. The flesh of the berries removed and the seeds will go to the fermentation process then washed by fresh water to remove the fermentation residue and finally dried.

The next step is to roast the coffee seed to improve the taste of the beverage both physically and chemically. The moisture of the seed evaporates, cause it to be less dense, strengthening the coffee and requirements for packaging. There are many ways to roast the coffee beans and different degree of coffee beans are roasted. The most common roast is the French Roast, the coffee beans will be dark brown and shiny because of the natural oil in the coffee beans, acidity has been diminished. Then the coffee beans will be ground to powder, either by the coffee grinder or pound depending on what kind of coffee being served.

Then it comes to the most essential part of coffee preparation, the brewing. Without the hot water that sips through and mixes with the coffee powder, you might actually be eating raw coffee powder! The most common ones are boiling and pressure.

Boiling is simply putting the ground coffee powder into a cup and pour hot water over it and leave it to sit, some people can choose to stir but it is not advisable unless you want to drink the ground.

The other is pressure. It forces hot water at 91-95 under pressure, extracting the flavour of the finely ground coffee. Espresso shots have the most extracted and refined flavour of natural taste of the coffee beans. Pressure requires a coffee machine to be able to do the job as the machine have already been programmed to know the exact amount of pressure to push the water through the coffee powders.
Here’s a video for you to see how your cup of coffee is being made at a Barista!

That’s about it for all the simple and short explanation! Stay tune for the next post when we will talk about the different variety of cup of coffee like Cappuccino! Espresso! Latte and more! See you next time!
